Author Guidelines

Language and Style
Articles in the journal are published exclusively in Icelandic or English. The editors reserve the right to reject manuscripts with serious deficiencies in language or spelling. It is the author’s responsibility to have the article proofread.

Title Page
The article’s title should appear on a separate title page, which also includes the authors’ names, institutional affiliation or academic title, and the phone number, postal address, and email address of the author responsible for receiving proofs and other communication from the editorial board.

Abstract
All articles must include an abstract in both Icelandic and English, not exceeding 150–200 words. The abstract should summarize the article’s objectives, methodology, and main findings. The abstract should appear on a separate page immediately following the title page.

Main Text
The recommended length for regular articles is 6,000 to 8,000 words. Commentaries and book reviews should be 1,000 to 3,000 words. Quotations shorter than 40 words should be placed within Icelandic-style quotation marks („ “), while quotations of 40 words or more should be indented. First-level subheadings should be in bold, and second-level subheadings in italics. The intended placement of tables and figures should be indicated in the text, but tables and figures should be placed on separate pages after the reference list in the manuscript.

Footnotes
Footnotes should be avoided as much as possible. If necessary, they should be brief and limited to important clarifications. In the manuscript, footnotes should be numbered and presented on a separate page following the main text and before the reference list.

In-text Citations
Citations in the text should follow the format (author, year). Further details can be found in the APA style guide.

Reference List
The reference list should appear after the main text and begin on a new page. Icelandic authors are listed alphabetically by first name, while international authors are listed by surname. The APA 7 referencing style is used.

Tables
Tables should be numbered sequentially and have descriptive titles. Each table should be placed on a separate page after the reference list. Tables should be formatted in plain text with double line spacing and tabs used to separate columns.

Figures
Figures should be numbered sequentially and have descriptive titles. Figures should be labeled above the image, following APA 7 guidelines (in the same manner as tables). Figures must be submitted on a separate page after the tables and in one of the following formats: PDF, TIFF, or JPG. Explanatory captions should be included with figures where appropriate. Authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions to publish any images.
