Útdráttur

The teaching of cinematography, as an academic field of study, has gained increased momentum since the turn of the twenty-first century. This article offers a draft curriculum for a course in film studies and explores the organization of a possible study-program in the field. Furthermore, and to establish a relevant platform of references and to offer a “good-practice” example, the authors offer an original and comprehensive review of the history and recent developments in Spanish cinema and film-making. The article provides an academic and scholarly assessment of Spanish film history, from its faltering beginnings, through fierce censorship during the Franco era, to its flamboyant present, never losing sight of its well-documented relationship with the country’s social and political reality. The article is particularly aimed at teachers and students of cinematography, film studies, Hispanic studies and Spanish. However, other professionals interested in curriculum development, education and research will find it offers a wide range of suggestions for future studies in the field of film studies.
